Questions 23 - 27

  • What kinds of publications does Sarai bring out?

We produce a theme-based English reader (Sarai Reader) and a Hindi reader (Deewan-e-Sarai). The Sarai Reader is an annual publication. We also publish a regular broadsheet, Sarai.txt , which is a quarterly. Each edition of the Sarai.txt invokes a specific theme. We also publish anthologies in the ‘Media Nagar’ (in Hindi) series that render research done at Sarai.

The Sarai-Ankur Cybermohalla project publishes books (bilingual in English and Hindi), broadsheets, print objects and wall magazines.

  • Where can I buy Sarai publications?

You can buy Sarai publications from us directly, from various bookshops and outlets in Delhi and major Indian cities, or from the website of our international distributor (Autonomedia Books). For more enquiries about purchasing Sarai books write to outreach@sarai.net. Our publications are available online for free browsing and download. For detailed information, visit the Publications section of our website.

  • Can I contribute to the Sarai Readers or Deewan-E-Sarai?

The editorial collectives of the Sarai Readers (English) and the Deewan-e-Sarai (Hindi) invite proposals for texts to be considered for forthcoming volumes. This is done through a public call for proposals on the Sarai mailing lists - reader-list, commons-law etc. (and other lists such as Nettime, Fibreculture, Spectre etc), or by advertisements in Hindi periodicals such as ‘Hans’ and through announcements on the Sarai website. Each volume has a theme, and contributors are invited to respond to the theme through texts, image-essays, interviews, diaries.

The editorial collectives make a selection from the proposals that come in, and also invites people to write. Contributors retain their copyright over their individual contributions. All Sarai publications are placed in the public domain.

  • I want to give a talk, present a paper or make a presentation in a seminar at Sarai? Is this possible? How do I go about this?

Sarai has 3 ongoing lecture/seminar series – on 'media publics and practices', 'urban space and politics', and 'language'. From time to time we also host artists and media practitioners talks. These events are programmed by solicitation, but we are happy to receive suggestions about possible speakers, topics or themes for discussion. If you want to present a talk, or would like to suggest that we invite someone to give a talk, write to dak@sarai.net, and if the suggestion can be accommodated within our interests, and schedule, we will be happy to respond positively.

  • Will Sarai arrange for talks/seminars/workshops, or hold film screenings at my university/college/institution?

Yes, whenever possible, and if the event you are doing resonates with our interests and concerns. Check with our Outreach Coordinator: call or write to outreach@sarai.net. You can also invite the Sarai.txt editorial collective for informal discussions around the themes of each Sarai.txt broadsheet. The collective is also occasionally facilitates print media production workshops (subject to schedules and technical infrastructure). Do note that requests must be made far in advance.
