SEECILIA

Digital Mapping by Ashok Sukumaran and Manosh De

suku1copy.jpg SEECILIA : This is an experiment in exploring the use of multiple dimensions to create a new graphic language. It is essentially a graph- a mapping of data over time. But many more variables are represented than in a traditional graph, and the complexity of such phenomena is made apparent. This example presents an "extended exposure" of a familiar urban experience, hanging out at the cinema. The solid volumes represent densities of people greater than 1 per square metre.

3D data mapping allows for the creation of these "information objects", which here resemble cilia or hair. Cutting a section along the time axis (lengthwise) shows us the variation of people in time along one "slice" in space, (in this case the dhabas). A cross section shows us a snapshot of what the space looked like at that instant.

This is an art project: SEECILIA and her family attempt to bring out the recondite patterns underlying ordinary life, as we believe all art must do. But someday in the future, maybe much data will be communicated in this pleasant manner. :-) Here you go, cut your own slice.
