The roof is neither home, nor a bazaar; neither a passage like a lane, nor a place to make home, like a room. It is a place both to meet others and a place to escape to, away from the routine to find a moment of stillness in. In the neighbourhood, it is simultaneously a space of gathering and of doing; of performance and of remaining in hiding, away from the humdrum of the everyday.
On the roof, you can be still and you can also lie down.
How can a structure for a roof be imagined, a structure which is neither lane nor home?
Model 01:

Elements: A bird cage with birds, a door that leads nowhere, a mirror and a screen with CDs. The emphasis is on imagining and building a constellation of everyday objects in a way that takes them away from their "everyday-ness", to create an enchanting space for spending time in solitude, and with others.
Model 02:

Elements: Three to four mirrors (height: 6 feet) and black shadows painted on the surface of the roof. The mirrors will cast reflections of any visitors to the roof, while the painted shadows will keep a sense of the presence of others alive, whatever the time of the day and slant of the rays of sun.
Model 03:

On the roof is a cage with birds. Why a cage, not a forest? One could create an assemblage of different speakers fed through a common sound booth, to create a forest filled with birds in the heart of the city.
Model 04:
Work in progress: A model of LNJP, built over circuit boards with melted white wax. With this structure, the LNJP Lab can invite people from the neighbourhood to tell stories about LNJP. A possible evening could be with playing the CM song, Guddu, and accompanying this with a light show on the wax model of LNJP.
