Writing Sound: an audio board
This 4 x 5 ft vinyl board was placed at the entrance to the main exhibition area. Here text and image were used to produce a world of sound. These include field notes, transcriptions of recorded interviews, advertisements and notices from old film trade magazines, old song books, and rare cassette covers. We get an insight into the relational world of sound and image, of music and sound, of the written word and sound. This is a world of jazz, thumri and Bhojpuri films, of lyricists, sound recordists, and dubbing artists, of film music and classical music events, of Vividh Bharti and FM Radio, and of Rabindra Sangeet, Balgandharva and Gauhar Jaan.
