Working Questions - Screenings
The exhibition space was also a venue for curated screenings of documentaries and experimental video forms. Each screening was followed by discussion.
- 1. Straight 8 (17 min)
A film made from old home video footage shot on a 16mm camera. The people in the videos remember the times and the technology in a digital edit of the film. The home video becomes a contemporary document.
- 2. Jingle: Love on the Bazaar Street (5 min)
A short video made from photographic stills. An encounter with the world of advertising and billboards and how they transform the landscape of the city.
- 3. Freedom in Cyberspace in the Context of India: Video Documentary (19 mins)
The documentary uses film clippings, found footage and interviews with experts to talk about issues of copyright and threat to free speech on the Internet.
- 4. Rush (7 mins) and Reverie (7 mins)
The two artistically shot videos invoke the filmmaker’s world and her negotiations as a queer person in the city of Mumbai.
- 5.Socialist Wives: Interview Excerpts (15 mins)
Using archival footage, photographs and interviews, the filmmaker talks about three Muslim women who were married to Communist men in the early decades of the last century. Three independent women and how they carve a niche for themselves in the metropolitan city of Bombay as actors, writers and activists.
- 6. Beeti Vibhavari Jaag Ri: Dilli ke Cityscape mein Dik wa Kaal (15 mins)
The city at night, the hour before dawn. A video camera and a journey through Delhi at night. the filmmaker writes about night in the city through image.
- 7. Jannat ki Rail (10 mins)
The film uses popular Islamic iconography and music to create a "Train to Heaven".
- 8. Listen, Little Man (28 mins)
The documentary explores the issue of ragging and ‘initiation’ to adult hood through this 'rite of passage'. It shows the brutal and lasting impact of ragging.
