The Sarai Hindi Reader, Deewan-e-Sarai, is a book series bringing together contemporary critical writing on urban space, the politics of language, popular culture, media and the public domain. In the first Reader, themes range from the history of the making of the Hindi public to the Internet. The second includes between its covers literary and social science writings on cities past and present.

Deewan-e-Sarai 01: Media Vimarsh/Hindi Janpad Media vimarsh://hindi janpad focuses media discourse in Hindi public domain and how the former made the latter and vice-versa. Divided into three sections, the first section tells us a critical story of how hindi public was fashioned in the arenas of print, radio and tv. The second is a series of discussions on the making of Hindi language, and the third section discusses the history of the Internet, Hindi Worlwide Web, and introduces the issues of free software and tactical media. Thus it travels the entire range from the print moment to the electronic and digital media moment of the 20th century. Some of the readings have been culled and translated from existing material on the net as well as from the Sarai Readers, and some are commissioned pieces written in original Hindi. It received enthusiastic reviews in Hindi newspapers and magazines.
