Conversing
Before becoming the president of the Green Valley resident welfare association Arvind Ranawat was working in the capacity of a president for a multinational bank. Dressed elegantly in Park Avenues and Parx, he seemed like someone who is used to be in charge of his surroundings. He described Green Valley as his home and its dwellers, his family. He was unhappy about the unfortunate experiences with Star Line developers but hoped that nothing of that sort will happen in future.
Reflecting about his reason to acquire an apartment at Green Valley, he said, he wouldn't prefer to live in a bungalow or a farmhouse because it is open from all the sides and it is difficult to secure a place like that. It is not safe. That's why he choose a condominium. A place like Green Valley is not unsafe.
He was categorical about outsiders. According to him outsiders come from small towns of UP and Bihar to find a job in a big city like Delhi, and they see fancy people driving fancy cars, since their aspirations cannot be met in near or distant future they resort to crime.
Arvind was of firm belief that police is of no help in case of an emergency, so the best way to deal with any untoward situation is to take matters in one's own hands and preempt the situation before it strikes. Hence policing of the complex, verification of maids, drivers, security staff, horticulture staff and administrative staff becomes a matter of utmost importance. He believed that through stricter zoning laws, round the clock surveillance, and through adequate use of technology one can overcome anxieties about fear and insecurity that haunts the everyday lived experience in the city.
He expressed satisfaction that even when owners rent their apartments out they do so while keeping the image of Green Valley in mind. Tenants mostly comprise of corporate professionals and bankers. He was much in favor of self same residential apartment complexes. He felt honored to live among the company of same sort of people he has worked with most of his life.
He believed that because of swipe card access doors, motion and heat sensors, completely mapped and surveilled space, deployment of security guards at all conceivable points of access, and placement of CCTV cameras at common areas his along with two hundred and forty other families are able to live a normal and unhindered life at Green Valley.
In his view the experiment of Green Valley was a success because of the society that inhabits the space and the comforts which the members of this society accords to each other through mutual cooperation and understanding.
