- ‘In 1857 a largely Hindu army found a symbol in the Mughal emperor. The contrast with the Babri demolition in ’92 is striking’: The Indian Express, 26th Feburary 2007. What I am saying is even when the clerics are calling it a jihad and the ruler is a Muslim, an army that is 85 per cent upper-caste Hindus has no problem with it.
- Post-Sachar: Centre carries out survey based on religion: The Times of India, 28th January 2007. Sources in the Minority Affairs Ministry said the compilation of minority statistics being drawn from the latest census figures would help the government identify areas that require greater flow of funds aimed at uplift of different minority groups.
- India's population growth to decelerate by 2026: The Hindustan Times, 27th Feburary 2007.India's annual population growth is expected to gradually decelerate from 1.6 per cent in 2006 to 0.9 per cent in 2026, according to the Economic Survey 2006-07 tabled by Finance Minister P Chidambaram in parliament Tuesday.
- Animal census in north Bengal yet to kick off: The Times of India, 11th February, 2004:The wildlife census in the forests of north Bengal will have to be completed by April. But, the forest department is yet to receive the signal to start the exercise.
- Migration shrinks Mumbai voter list: The Times of India, 18th February, 2004:" Clarifying that he had compared the enumeration figures with the 2001 census report, Bhargava explained that the reduction was mainly because of the intensive revision (called house-to-house enumeration) done in 2001 by the electoral staff".
- Mother tongue ain't spoken here: The Times of India,21st February, 2004:"When my husband, Abhijit Sengupta, was posted in Raichur, the census staff who came to our house were most frazzled. I said I was Tamilian and my husband Bengali, but when asked what our mother tongue was, I said it was neither of the two. And here was my son speaking to them fluently in Kannada. They thought we were a completely mixed-up family."

- Demand for a change in the census benchmark: TheTimes of India, 22nd February, 2004:"Economists have appealed to President Kalam to change the 1971 census benchmark to the 2001 census for the allocation of funds to the state through the 12th finance commission".
- People count gaining smooth momentum: The Timesof india, 23rd July,2004:" Given the penchant for dropping fantastic names and data in almost every government roll -- electoral, voters' photo-identity, census, ration-shop cards etc -- it may not be humanly possible that the Registrar General of India (RGI) will end up completing the MNIC cards countrywide mistake-free".
