Beyond the Concept City
27th May - 3rd April 2006
Bangalore.
CASUMM (Collaborative for the Advancement of Studies in Urbanism through Mixed-Media), Bangalore, and Sarai-CSDS, Delhi, in association with Max Mueller Bhavan, Bangalore, presened a 3-part event, entitled Beyond the Concept City at Bangalore between 27.05.06 - 03.06.06. The programme included a multimedia exhibition, a film series, a round table discussion and a workshop to explore the complex political and economic practices shaped by our diverse relationships within the city. The activities sought to move beyond conceptual frameworks that assume for instance, a modernist trajectory trapped in steps of a developmentalist ladder, the city as a demographic entity devoid of space, an outcome of larger structuralism, or the politics framed exclusively in terms of a ‘rights-based' urban movement to pressurize the nation state or a homogenized market economy.
